Architecture // Interpretation Centre
Interpretation Centre, Spurn Point, East Yorkshire. This project was undertaken during my first year of the MArch (Part II) postgraduate degree.
Spurn Point is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve and is a location that is always in transition; a long, sandy peninsula held together by marram grass. An interpretation centre should communicate the importance and meaning of heritage using user-friendly and interactive exhibitions. As such, I designed this centre to act as a record of changes, such as using the long pier to mark where the coast line sits every year to demonstrate the huge impact of coastal errosion. As sustainability was high on the client's agenda this building is designed to be prefabricated off-site, utilise passive solar gains and natural ventilation without compromising the vistior's experience.
