Pedestrian Footbridge, River Amstel, Amsterdam. This project was undertaken during my first year of the MArch (Part II) postgraduate degree.
The aim of this project was to focus on the tectonic expression of the design and neccessary mechanisms, rather than focussing on the local context. The brief stated the footbridge should be iconic, show expressive tectonics and to allow river traffic through.
This was the first project I built from scratch in 3DS Max, as I was learning how to use the software at the time. I also utilised this new skill to produce a video (click the link below to view it) which allowed me to demonstrate how the bridge operates to allow river traffic through.
Final visualisation showing the bridge in use.
An initial sketch showing the bridge opening and closing using a corkscrew concept.
